Cape Town

First day in Cape Town today. Decent breakfast at our hotel and then exploring the craft market (Green Market Square) right outside our front door, one of the top tourist attractions. Lots of paintings, African masks and jewellery. Very vibrant and colourful - although suprisingly pricey. Stall holders were friendly and not too pushy. 

Pottering around on a "walking tour" of Clare's - saw numerous Art Deco buildings and the City Hall:

Next stop was Castle of Good Hope, the pentagon-shaped coastal defensive fort (quite some distance from the sea these days thanks to reclamation). Originally built by the Dutch East India Company and subsequently occupied by the British forces. Blustery up on the ramparts today and Clare managed to catch the sun, even though Richard didn't see the sun all day!

They even had rooms to rent where Clare suggested Rich should considering staying if he didn't hurry up and finish the exceptional military history museum...

We left the fort and headed up to the colourful streets of Bo-Kaap where the freed slaves built brightly coloured houses. We even found ourselves in Hazelmere at one point although the walk was a lot shorter than we would have expected...

Some drizzle in the afternoon so back at hotel for a quick gym session and a dip in the roof top pool in the shadow of Table Mountain.
